Should You Have a Blog for Your Business?

Provided by Mona Shibel, Content Partner for SME Toolkit

Many people don’t realize the importance of having a blog on their website to boost their online presence. Actually a blog can drive both online traffic and actual customers to your business.

Here are 3 great reasons why blogs are essential for your online presence:

1-     Search engines love it!

When your customers use a search engine to look for a product or  service, a blog can boost your ranking so that your website appears higher up in the search results.

Whether you are a nutritionist or a photographer, the search engines want validation on your expertise through fresh content being posted and frequent updates relating to your area of expertise. A blog does exactly this to get your website more frequently recalled when customers search for these keywords. This is the crux of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

2-     It’s interactive to showcase your expertise

With internet marketing, you do not have the privilege to meet face-to-face with your followers. If people visited your website, they may have read a bit about your expertise, or read about your qualifications and experience. However, this may not be enough. A blog can provide this interactive platform that visitors can really get to know you through what you have to say . It is an opportunity for you to showcase your expertise to your potential customers and followers. It also helps to build rapport towards you so that by the time they meet you face to face, they are already comfortable with the level of expertise you have to offer.

3-     It’s a tool to promote your services

A blog should not be used as a direct sales pitch, which might irritate most people. However, it could be used as a gentle reminder of your service to your customers. Occasionally, it is useful to publish information about a current offer or promotion to mention particular features of your products or services. When incorporated as part of the flow of the blog conversation, such promotions can lead to a regular inflow of customers.

Your blog can also be shared across other channels, such as social media in which readers will “like” what you have to say and may share it with their friends and colleagues. In all cases, always make sure that you divert followers back to your website where they can be reminded of the products or services you provide.

If you haven’t yet started blogging, it’s never too late. Start now and be sure to keep it active, fun and engaging.
