FASA AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN FRANCHISING UNDERGOES TRANSFORMATION
After more than ten years, the FASA Awards for Excellence in Franchising are undergoing a transformation! After much discussion the FASA council has decided to make some key changes to the timing and format of the Awards in keeping with international franchise practices.

The FASA Awards will move from their slot in October to run alongside the highly successful International Franchise Expo in the first quarter of 2009.
This ties in with FASA’s intention to establish a strong “Franchise Week” which will focus on a series of workshops, seminars, networking events and the Expo culminating on the Saturday evening with the prestigious Gala Awards dinner.

These rights include trade marks, patents, designs and copyright regulated by statute, know-how, confidential information and trade secrets. He urges proper protection of all these elements in a franchise.

New bill clips wings of suppliers
Franchisors may soon find it more difficult to be the sole supplier of goods and services to a franchisee. A right-of-choice provision in the 4th version of the Consumer Protection Bill (CPB) will prevent a franchisor from requiring that a consumer (or franchisee) purchase goods or services from the franchisor or from any other supplier.

IFE a great succes
For the franchisors and businesses that exhibited at IFE 2008, the Expo did not disappoint! Once again, IFE proved to be the premier franchise expo in the country with quality visitors all keen to own their own businesses. From the moment exhibitors attended the Exhibitor Briefing and heard exhibitions expert Joy Donovan re-iterate that exhibitions far outweighed any other form of selling opportunity and emphasized that those who were exhibiting were being pro-active in marketing their concept in tough times – IFE was on its way to enjoying another successful year!
